The city of Marmaris is located on a bay, with sea as smooth as glass, which forms the meeting point of the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. It has a very well equipped natural harbour, one of the largest in Turkey, surrounded by pine-clad hills. The pleasant, lively and vibrant atmosphere of this little pearl will provide some memorable moments for you. Marmaris is an attractive holiday resort, ideal for water sports and sailing. It can be the starting point for the Blue Voyage on a traditional wooden Gulet. Many small bays and inlets where one can go swimming, diving, fishing or windsurfing make the lace-like coastline more beautiful.

The ancient city of Cnidos has the most impressive ruins on the peninsula and was the most advanced city in terms of science, architecture and arts. The famous astrologist and mathematician Eudoksus, the physician Euryphon, the famed artist Polygnotos and the architect, Sostratos who built the Lighthouse of Alexandria - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - all lived here.
Cleopatra Island, located in the Gulf of Gokova, has a unique beach with golden sand and Roman ruins. It is a very special place. It is said that the soft white sand was brought all the way from the Red Sea shores of Egypt especially for Cleopatra. The beach is heavily protected by the government to keep it and the ruins safe from any damage. A short boat trip by wooden fishing boat takes you to this dreamy island where you can discover paradise and swim in the crystal-clear turquoise water.
Hydas
The ruins of wide city walls dating back to the Hellenistic period lie in Hydas, 35 kilometres from Marmaris on the Erine-Bybassios road, with a square shaped monument to the south. Several tombs can still be seen around a watchtower, 3 kilometres away from Hydas. The ancient region of Hydas was founded in the Bay of Selimiye (Kamisli Bay) north of the Loryma Peninsula.
