Foça
This lovely small village, just 70 kilometres away from the centre of Izmir, is a wonderful destination for short trips with clean and nice beaches, well kept restaurants and accommodation next to some more attractions. Foça has got two natural bays called Büyükdeniz and Küçükdeniz and is quite well known because of its close islands, one of them is mentioned in lot of historical myths called Sirenians Island.
Modern Foça is still not faced to mass tourism so much and so lot of people from Izmir use Foça as short way weekend destination. Another reason for slower development is, that the army of Turkey is situated next to the beach so there is no expansion to the next bay possible.
Just a few kilometres outside of Foça, Club Med established one of their settlements in the 1970th already, but this does not have any effect on the village of Foça so far, even so a couple of holiday homes, some bed and breakfast homes and two new hotels have been opened. In the picturesque harbour you will find one fish restaurant next to the other. Mostly during the weekend there are lot of short trip guests from Izmir, escaping from the chaos of the big city centre. The typical audience of Foça is of the upper middle class of Turkey like teachers, artists, musicians, engineers who are meeting over here.
For long term holiday makers Yenifoca about 20 kilometres to the north is the more interesting place, not because of its natural surrounding but because of the wider range of possibilities for tourists as there are a
