Seferihisar
Seferihisar is a small Aegean town at the cost of the Izmir region. It is located at the southeast of the peninsula called Cesme (coastline is about1695 km long) which is the biggest peninsula in the Aegean Sea. The centre of Seferihisar is 5 km far away from sea coast. This pretty little town of the Aegean is mainly governed by the Municipality of Izmir and the distance between Izmir centre and Seferihisar is 36 km.
The closest train station for travellers coming by train is in Izmir centre and the distance to Seferihisar is about 45 km. Alternative possibility is the Izmir Adnan Menderes international airport which is just 40 km away from Seferihisar. Sigacik, which is a discreet of the town has a small harbour for fishermen at the moment. The new harbour will be 400 boat capacity and is still under construction.
Like other small Aegean towns, Seferihisar was under the control of Lydian, Persian, Ancient Greece, Pergamon, Macedonian, Roman and Byzantine Knights between 5. and 7. century BC. It is thought that the name of Seferihisar was originally coming from a Roman general. The town has taken current name after Turkish came to Anatolia. The oldest settlement in the town is Teos Ancient city dating back to 2000 BC. Lebedos Ancient City, Karaköse Ruins and Myonnesos Island are still standing and are witnesses of the history like Teos Ancient City.
