Veterinary
To keep animals and supply them with medical care is still a problem in Turkey like in most of the other southern European states, especially with regard to domestic pets. Once over here you will only learn this through your own experiences. But changes are being made thanks to the modernisation of the country. You will find more and more homes for abused and discarded pets, quite often founded by Europeans. These are acceptable to the local authorities and sometimes even used and paid for by them.
These animal shelters help in lot of different situations, if, for example, you want to take a dog back home, they will organize all the necessary paperwork and even cages for the plane. There is a great deal of communication between animal protection organisations in Europe and Turkey. European organisations even try to give new homes to pets from animal shelters in Turkey. If you come here, why not visit one of these shelters. They will welcome you and thank you for your support.
Medical treatment for animals in general, especially in the tourist places, is no problem at all. Veterinaries are well trained and know all about modern methods of care and have the technical equipment for the job which is familiar throughout Europe. They are used to having customers from different countries so they usually have somebody able to speak different languages in their office.
It is quite easy to find veterinary in Turkey whenever there is any problem of vaccination, transport or quarantine. It is often far easier to take your pets with you than you might think. When all necessary vaccinations have been done and you have the necessary papers for your pet are, there should not be a problem. Some of the vets here also offer accommodation for pets if their owners are going back to Europe for a couple of days or weeks. Just contact them to find out which ones offer this service.
