Department Stores

While walking through the city centre of Turkish cities you may notice the huge number of small shops and markets, which are often open all day and all night. Quite often the complete family is involved in such a shop, each of them has a certain job he or she is responsible for. These small shops sell the same goods as the local shopping centres that we were used to in the late sixties.

Nearly all the products from Europe are available here alongside the huge variety of Turkish products, especially fruit and vegetables. Some supermarkets now offer everything you would wish to buy cheaply and under one roof. If you like bargaining this is not possible at these superstores, but sometimes it is worth waiting to buy something you want really cheaply. For instance, if you want to save money on outdoor furniture, wait until the season is nearly over. Another way is to wait for the special offers published in the store's newsletter for goods like computers, kitchen equipment or air conditioning.

For the real taste of Turkey, go to the bazaar to get the traditional shopping atmosphere. Listen to lots of different voices, shouting their wares, bargaining and shouting to attract more customers. There are lots of opportunities to experience this.

Due to more and different products coming on the market and also increasing numbers of tourists asking for newly introduced European products, some supermarkets have been built in Alanya and in the surrounding villages. Today there are Turkish supermarkets like Migros, Afra or BIM next to the well-known European names like Metro and Tespo, which were already established here.

The superstores offer a huge variety of goods to make shopping more appealing. Fresh fruit and vegetables of high quality, cheap goods and special offers are all reasons for shopping in these superstores.

Enjoy your shopping!
