izmir_fairHeld from 10-13 December, 2009, Travel Turkey İzmir closed its doors after hosting 430 exhibitors and 14,829 professional visitors from 36 countries.
The city of İzmir hosted another critical event, which will add new attraction centers to Turkey’s tourism industry and contribute to the national economy.

Travel Turkey İzmir Fair and Conference, with Guests of Honor Denizli and Sarajevo Canton, was a huge success.

With 430 exhibitors from 17 countries, the fair welcomed 14.829 visitors from 36 countries during its four-day run(Germany, USA, Azerbaijan, UAE, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, China, Armenia, Georgia, Croatia, India, UK, Iran, Scotland, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, TRNC, Libya, Lithuania, Egypt, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Poland, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey and Greece).

140 INTERNATIONAL GUESTS MET LOCAL TOURISM

Within the scope of the Hosted Buyer Program, and with the Hilton İzmir as the main accommodation sponsor, 140 invitees from 13 countries made one-on-one contacts with fair exhibitors’ representatives during the two-day B2B workshop, laying foundations for new business opportunities. Visitors and international buyer delegations also had the opportunity to see historical sites and tourist attractions in İzmir and its vicinity during a sightseeing tour of İzmir and Efes.

FIRST RESULTS

The first outcome of the fair, which was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was the decision to ramp up efforts to promote İzmir in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.  Ertuğrul Günay, Culture and Tourism Minister, said that he would instruct the General Directorate for Promotion of Tourism to initiate promotions targeting Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt.

During the first meeting with the Russian Association of Tourism Agencies (RATA ), the parties agreed to increase the number of Russian tourists and Russian tourism investors in the Aegean coast.
Syria, which has become a new attraction center since the lifting of visa restrictions, and Armenia, attending a fair for the first time in Turkey, stole the spotlight during the event.

TRAVEL TURKEY İZMİR was held as a result of the cooperation between İZFAŞ, HANNOVER MESSE INTERNATIONAL, and TÜRSAB.

Last year’s fair saw 324 exhibiting companies and 12,534 visitors.
