Increasing numbers of foreign citizens as well as new inhabitants from other parts of Turkey, and the demand for better or more modern, international materials are responsible for the growth of superstores in the big cities.
Up till now most of the construction materials has been sold by small family shops in the Sanai (an industrial area next to the town centre), but this is changing. More and more firms specialize on certain products. They try to become experts on their range of goods, finding their own place in the market. This means, European products have been introduced and Turkish products have become more well known.
It is fairly new for the shops to have attractive showrooms for their goods, as well as using modern technology like computer aided design, cost assessment programs and more. By offering all this, their aim is a high level of customer satisfaction.
Initially, big superstores, most of them well known names from America or Europe, have opened near the big towns. This is the reason that you can get all the materials you know from Europe already. If they are not available in the store, you can easily order them for delivery in a few days.
It is no longer true, despite what some people say, that you cannot find building materials in Turkey. If you cannot find what you want in your town, there are plenty of big stores in Antalya, Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara which should be able to fulfil your needs for a fair price.
