Only in the suburbs of the major centers of Turkey such as Istanbul, Izmir or Ankara, will you find Industrial Enterprises the likes of which are known in Europe.
Eventually, there will be some industrial firms in smaller cities like Konya and Antalya as well. It is still common in Turkey to produce many goods by hand and in small numbers.The more Turkey becomes a part of Europe, the more big European companies will start investing in industrial plants and assembly lines. The first of these is the car industry, which not only sees Turkey as a growing market but also considers the low wages of the workforce on the production lines an important reason for their investment. Some other examples of this are the producers of construction materials, who have also noticed the development of Turkey, and have now decided to establish new production centers over here.
Gradually, modern technologies like CNC driven tool- and production machines are establishing themselves in the Turkish market. If you have a closer look into furniture production, this is clearly to be seen. About 80 % of all furniture is handmade, with almost no usage of computerized cutting machines or complete workstations using a variety of tools.
Certainly, there are a lot of advantages to be gained.
While labor is still cheap in Turkey and social insurance rates are still low, this could quickly change. The closer Turkey gets to the European Community, the quicker the changes will be put into practice and this, of necessity, means more usage of modern technologies.
Whether all this industrialization brings advantages, we will only find out later.
