Going bowling always reminds us a little of the American way of life. About 20 lanes next to each other, the sound of disco music all around and quite often a very trendy décor help to create such a feeling.
Nowadays all this can be enjoyed in Turkey as well. Historically, ten pin bowling was introduced into America by immigrants from the Netherlands and Germany, who brought it from Europe. They based it on the similar and comparable game called "skittles".At the beginning of the nineteenth century this foreign game was prohibited because it was seen as a game of chance. For the player the real fans it only took a short time to change the system a little; putting one more pin into the game and all the pins into different positions and creating a new game: ten pin bowling.
With this new name and the construction of new big and bright halls, leaving the dark and dubious looking cellars in the past, ten pin bowling got really well known and became more and more popular.
Since then about 100 million people have come to love and take part in ten pin bowling. Not for them the traditional outfit of white trousers and shirts worn by outdoor bowlers. Ten pin bowling enthusiasts wear everyday casual dress.
It is still necessary to change your footwear for bowling. You are not allowed to wear your own shoes because the wooden lanes can easily be damaged. But there is no need to worry about foot infections. All hire shoes are cleaned and sterilised after each use.
After you have hired your shoes and paid for the lane, you then have a choice of bowling balls which are available in different sizes. Try to find out the correct weight for you, as this helps you to control and aim the bowl which is difficult to do if it is too heavy. Work out the right position to put your fingers into the holes of the bowl because you lead with them. And off you go!
The roules of the game
All modern ten pin bowling centres work on computer based systems for counting the pins. On big screens players and their scores are shown. Each player has to throw the ball ten times in one game. You should try to hit all ten pins with one bowl. If it is not possible with one throw you will get a second chance, but that?s it. If you hit all ten pins with one bowl this is called a strike. The computer calculates all the pins and throws and at the end shows who is the winner. A score of a hundred pins as a beginner is a very good result. The time for one game depends on the number of players in the group, the skill of the players and the amount of discussion within the group.Many bowling centres have introduced special rates for events such as birthday parties, or you could spend the afternoon bowling for a special price. There are offers for family bowling or original ideas centre with their own DJ and laser show, lots of special effects and more.
