Star Trip
In the international year of astronomy 2009, Mr. Bayram Dökmeci offers a very special experience for the warm summer days. After dinner you will be picked up from your hotel by bus. The journey goes to the centre of Alanya, directly to the harbour. Our boat is already awaiting us there. We depart when all guests have entered the boat. Then we sail offshore with southern direction to the Mediterranean Sea, until Alanya is recognizable just as a spot of light at the horizon.
Then Tour Leader Dökmeci, who will also give the lecture about the celestial bodies, will ask all the guests to meet on deck. There you lay down on the deck (mattresses are available) and make yourself as comfortable as possible. After the eyes get used to the dark, you will catch sight of the magnificent sky of stars above you. Your tour leader will start a lecture about the stars, cosmos, planets, nebula and the composition of the stars.
Afterwards a slideshow of the constellations will take place. You will be familiarized with the most important constellations and the lightest fixed stars visible at this hour. When the characteristic figure of a constellation is faded on the screen, it will be easy for you to recognize the constellation in the sky too.
Your tour leader will help you to find all the visible constellations. You will see the northern circumpolar stars and some planets also. There won’t be a telescope on board. We will show you the way to interesting observations that are possible in the sky with bare eyes only. After you have deepened your impressions enough, accompanied by relaxing music in easy atmosphere, you will drive along the beautiful coast of Alanya back to the harbour. The star heaven trip ends at the harbour. From there you can take your bus drive back to the hotel or visit one of the many cafes, restaurants or discos at the harbour.
At the end of the trip you will know more about the cosmic clockwork and in the future can locate the lightest stars and the most important constellations by yourself. Furthermore, you will know which constellation will be useful during all the times of the year as a guide for you.
Total duration of the trip: 2 ½ hours.
Please notice that the star heaven trip absolutely depends on the weather. The trip will not be able to take place at full-moon, high waves and high humidity. Please take a pullover or a light jacket with you. Warm clothing is advised in the summer evenings also.
