Exhibition Opening - Actopolis Izmir - Goethe Institute

Actopolis Izmir, Sergi Açılışı / Exhibition Opening, 15.11.2017 - 18:00

"Actopolis Izmir is an exercise in spatial and temporal politics, based in storytelling. The project comprises a series of storytelling events, a series of Cansu Çakar’s illuminated illustrations, and attempts to raise questions about the lack of primacy of personal history and lived experience with relation to the urban environment of Izmir through the actions of spatial occupation and drawing. We want to be clear that the types of politics referred to here are not the governmental, but the juridical politics manifest in laws regarding the occupation of space and the movement of inhabitants. Juridical politics are insidious as they incorporate not only the space of thought, debate, and opinion, but also the physical space of the built environment through zoning laws and constitutionally held beliefs about land ownership and usage."
