Ebiltem - Further planning for our project, "Cultural Journey along Roman Roads," led to contact with Ege University in Izmir during our online research.

In particular, we made contact with Aykut Gülalanlar at Ebiltem, one of their experts for all kinds of projects carried out in cooperation with other institutes and associations.

In the following days, Aykut Gülalanlar assembled a team of experts and invited them to a panel discussion about our project. We were to present and explain the project and then, in collaboration with the team of experts, explore funding opportunities or potential private sponsors.

... Further planning for our project, "Cultural For our project “Cultural Journey Along Roman Roads,” a team of five experts from the fields of archaeology and Ebiltem itself was assembled:

Ahmet Uhri, Archaeologist from Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir
Aytekin Erdoğan, Archaeologist from Ege University, Izmir
Rory Nuijens, Ebiltem Project Expert
Semih Erden, Ebiltem Project Expert
Aykut Gülalanlar, Ebiltem Project Expert

Since its founding in 1994, Ebiltem has aimed to promote the institutional structure for coordinating research and development activities at Ege University. After a brief introductory presentation of the participants at Ebiltem in the discussion, the conversation quickly turned to the project "Cultural Journey along Roman Roads," in which the basic idea for the project's development was presented and explained.

Many monuments and ancient sites still lie largely unnoticed by the local population and authorities; indeed, they are often haphazardly "disposed of" for road construction or even in development areas, thus destroying important cultural heritage. The only way to address this is by educating the local population and involving them in the possible concepts, thereby fostering long-term understanding and recognizing the potential benefits, including financial ones. The project aims precisely at this kind of local involvement through the implementation of cultural activities and by identifying pathways for sustainable tourism.

Using maps, the planned routes of the project were discussed, and initial potential locations of particular importance were marked. Ultimately, detailed work and cooperation with local authorities will be key to successful implementation. Simply reaching a wider audience can be a helpful first step.

If you, dear readers and users of the Alaturka portal, have any ideas or suggestions for the project, we would like to extend a warm invitation to do so.

After exchanging our contact information, we conclude this initial meeting, which will certainly be followed by further meetings after initial contact.
