In our article "Archaeological excavations of ancient Siculi 2015" we had already pointed out the unusual concept about the gentle excavation "tourism", in which students and / or other interested parties can actively participate in genuine archaeological sites.

As part of the really attractive offers in and around the campsite Kamp Galep we got the opportunity to participate in an adventurous ride along the sliding tracks (zip lines), which are installed slightly above Omis mountain range above the river Cetina.

After a brief respite at the chapel above Omis, which is at about 440 meters above sea level, we started our way back. Shortly after the 2nd World War the destroyed chapel was rebuilt and so the mythology says, a cloud appears during the opening ceremony and it started to snow. Whereupon they decided for the name: Snow Maiden!

After our arrival at the campsite Kamp Galep in Omiš we arranged a first meeting with the management of Kamp Galep in which a first time table of the next days was discussed as a first brief meeting for outdoor activities.

Within the framework of our project "A journey of Intimacy and Culture along the Roman Roads" we were invited by Dr. Robert Krickl, the organizer of the festival "Roman Days" to Brunn am Gebirge, another topic was to talk about his scientific studies on Roman finds and their significance for human life in Brunn.

Salona was founded in the 4th century BC. During this time next to the native Illyrians and Greek lot of Italians / Romans lived in Salona.

During further research for contacts, about people or companies who wish to participate in our project for the development of places for staying during the wintertime in the South we also contacted the campsite in Omis, about 30 kilometers away from Split.

Brunn am Gebirge - The Roman Days at the Local History Museum are now underway. They are meticulously organized by Dr. Robert Krickl with the support of his family and many friends.

Our texts, images galleries and blog articles as part of our project had led to new contacts in Shkoder, Salona and in Omis and since we had agreed with Dr. Krickl about participation in the Roman festival in Brunn am Gebirge, we left the Lake Ohrid. At least for a certain period of time.

Quickly after starting it became clear, that reaching the Magaro peak was a question of saving energy. Steadily climbing, first within the shadow of beech trees, but then in the sun light, the path took a lot.

The Galičica Mountains rises in southwestern Macedonia between the Ohrid and Prespa lakes. The highest elevation, the Magaro is 2.255 meters high.

After some extensive day and multi-day trips along the border with Albania, we at least wanted some shorter trips, which can be seen as a half-day excursion or tours, explore them and report on it.

In the previous blog "Hiking Idyll " we had already reported about our first impressions of the high pastures above Vevcani at the border with Albania.

Rino (Camping Rino) had told us of two rural settlements in the mountains near Vevcani, which could serve as intermediaries for mountain hikes, especially since some young families have settled there.

What we could not do during our first visit to the Sveti Naum Monastery, we wanted to catch up on now together with our Swiss friend Sven: a boat trip on the spring lake near the monastery.

We had arranged to meet with Rino, the owner of the campsite of the same name next to the lake, to make explorations regarding further hiking trails that could be offered for guided tours or topics to an interested audience for hiking the hinterland of Kalishta.

As a starting point of today's hike we had made, following the notices of Misho, our way to Konjsko, a small town on the edge of the Galicica National Park. From here, we followed the routes T5 to T7 or H5 to H7, in many places the routes allow a magnificent view over Lake Ohrid.

The Galičica Mountains rises in southwestern Macedonia between the Ohrid and Prespa lakes. Its ridge runs approximately north-south direction, starting near the town of Ohrid to the Albanian border where it passes south through the mountain range in Mali i Thate.

We had already reported about the sailing to the ancient monastery Sveti Naum during our short trip around Lake Ohrid, where we passed the ice-cold stream of spring water of Cherava river flowing into Lake Ohrid and give the impression of really cold water, despite high summer temperatures.

On our way around Lake Ohrid we arrived at the prehistoric lake pile dwelling settlement "Plocha Michov Grad" in the Bay of Bones.
