Christmas market in Halle: a solution despite Corona?

Christmas market in Halle: a solution despite Corona?

The four decentralized “Halle Christmas Markets” on the market square, Domplatz, in front of the Ulrichskirche and on Hansering had to close due to the currently new 15th SARS-CoV-2 containment ordinance of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, which has been in force since November 24th, 2021.

Together with the dealers and organizers, a solution was found in accordance with the new Corona Containment Ordinance, which allowed parts of the "Halle Christmas Markets" to be preserved. "Winter market" and "Hüttenzauber am Domplatz" are the names of the two Christmas offers that opened on Saturday, November 27, 2021 on the market square and on the Domplatz.

Candle pyramid and 15 meter fir tree

But there are also some things that have stayed the same in Halle for years and have become real visitor magnets. The 15-meter-high Christmas tree in front of the Ratshof, for example. It is the heart of the market and can be seen from afar. When the sun has set and it glows in the dark, the magic of Christmas is within your grasp. Anyone who has stood in front of it with the cold in your legs and a cup of hot mulled wine in your hand will remember it for a long time.

Almost directly next to it there is a large pyramid of candles made of wood every year. It looks like a gigantic version of the typical Erzgebirge light pyramids. The Christmas market in Halle often has its own ice rink. Whether and when this will return to Halle is still open for this year.

Red tower - a Christmas candle

b_450_450_16777215_00_images_deutschland_sachsen-anhalt_halle-weihnachtsmarkt-4.jpgJust in time with the beginning of Advent, the Red Tower - one of Halle's landmarks - will be given a Christmas look again: Thanks to special lighting, it shines all in red in the evening hours and is reminiscent of a huge Christmas candle. Right next to it are the Hausmannstürme. They belong to the Marienkirche on the market and are specially adorned with numerous fairy lights for the Christmas market. And just in time for the opening of the market, these are traditionally also switched on. You can also visit the towers. From up there you have a wonderful view of the entire market.

The winter market on the market square ended on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 9 p.m. Access to all areas was possible for vaccinated and convalescent patients (2-G rule).
