In such cases, a document endorsed by the embassy was required, expressly authorizing the driver to use the vehicle. Furthermore, the "Green Card" (international motor insurance certificate) was often valid only for the European part of Turkey. Particular attention must always be paid to the vehicle's permitted duration of stay, as this may differ from the owner's permitted length of stay. A special stamp indicating the date of entry was always entered into the passport for this purpose.
A New System for Vehicle Owners with Foreign License Plates
The Ministry of Trade has now introduced a new digital service for vehicle owners with foreign license plates. This initiative addresses the frequent issue particularly during the summer months when traffic at border crossings is heavy of citizens entering the country without knowing the permitted duration of stay for their vehicles.
Exceeding the vehicle's permitted stay can lead to problems. To avoid such issues and streamline the process, the new web service "Transactions for Vehicles with Foreign License Plates" was launched. It is accessible via the e-services section of the Ministry's website.

You can now easily check your vehicle's permitted duration of stay in Turkey online. As the owner, you will also receive reminder emails to help you avoid exceeding the allowed time limit. Necessary procedures can be completed online, and contact details can be entered and verified within the system.
