Finnelauf - Once Again Draws a Large Field of Participants
- Written by Portal Editor

Finnelauf—A major sporting event in the small communities of Billroda and Tauhardt, which once again succeeded in attracting numerous participants and an even larger number of spectators—to the 46th Finnelauf hosted by SG Finne Billroda.
While over 620 runners had already registered for the popular running event in the days leading up to the date, numerous additional registrations were received on the day itself, resulting in a final count of over 1,000 registered participants.
The majority of participants opted for the 2-kilometer and 6-kilometer courses; over 40 runners ventured to tackle the half-marathon distance, while 50 "Bambinis" (young children) were eager to give the event's mascot—the Fox—a run for its money.
As the weather also cooperated, the sports grounds were filled not only with the runners' companions but also with a great many other guests, leading the organizers to estimate a total attendance of over 3,000 visitors.
The kickoff to this year's Finnelauf—starting punctually at 9:00 a.m.—could almost be described as a tradition in itself: the start of the 19th School Relay Race, featuring elementary schools from the local area, with prizes including a perpetual trophy and numerous free tickets.
The subsequent 2-kilometer "Open Run" (Jedermann-Lauf) and the 6-kilometer race alone attracted nearly 500 participants spanning a wide range of age groups.
Among the highlights of the Finnelauf were, once again, the half-marathon—which drew 54 participants—and the 12.5-kilometer course, with 115 participants.
The two subsequent events—the 6-kilometer and 11.5-kilometer Nordic Walking disciplines—led participants through the Rastenberger Forest.
A guided hike through the woods was also included in the program, attracting approximately 50 participants.
Thus, every generation was integrated into the overall concept of the 46th Finnelauf—a feature that ultimately transforms this sporting event into a true family gathering.
The fire department, with its field kitchen, as well as other food vendors, provided refreshments for the numerous participants and guests; naturally, homemade cakes from the village community were once again available as well.
