Opening of the “Trials” exhibition in the Marubi Museum

Marubi Museum in collaboration with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency has the pleasure to invite you to the opening of the exhibition ‘Trials,’ co-curated by Zef Paci, Luçjan Bedeni and Lek M. Gjeloshi.

The institution, originally established as the First Press Office in Albania in 1920, underwent a transformation immediately after Liberation. On 29.12.1944, it evolved into the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA). During the dictatorship, it remained the sole informative entity within the People's Socialist Republic of Albania.

PROCESSES: A RESEARCH IN THE ARCHIVES OF THE ALBANIAN TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY

marubi museum 05This exhibition, using only photographic images of the ATA from a specific period, relies on a distinctive process, leveraging a paradox that speaks as much about a certain time frame as it does about photography itself. It focuses on a political era (1945-1961), a time when the dictatorship openly displayed its aggressive and threatening stance towards individuals who held differing viewpoints. This bred a sense of fear and insecurity among people, augmenting the regime's absolute power.

Nowadays, although this act of photographic documentation might have been influenced by the regime's directives, it undoubtedly presents another perspective: it exposes something that was not intended to be revealed; a trial of the photographs of the trails.
