Meissen – State Porcelain Manufactory

Meissen – Meissen tableware and art objects from the Meissen® manufactory are world-renowned. Travellers from across the globe particularly many from Asia visit the manufactory for tours and shopping during their trips to Europe.

On our way to Dresden, we had the opportunity to tour the Meissen® manufactory.

During the tour, we were guided through various stages of the production process. In the photo above, a staff member is shaping raw cup forms from the porcelain paste.

Another employee is attaching rose rosettes to an unfired figurine. Throughout the tour, commentary is transmitted to visitors via headsets in a wide range of languages.

A different employee is painting a plate, using pre-sketched outlines as a guide to begin adding colour.

Most designs are merely modernized; otherwise, the manufactory predominantly uses standardized motifs that have been known for many years.

In addition to various areas of craftsmanship such as the creation of wall panels and sculptures the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory has also succeeded, for the first time, in producing functional organ pipes.
