Breitach – Our Hike Towards Riezlern

Breitach – After the return walk through the Breitach Gorge, we continued our hike along the Breitach River towards Riezlern. It was a relaxed walk with no significant changes in elevation; the magnificent weather allowed us to fully enjoy the landscape a pleasure shared by others we encountered along the way.
From time to time, we met fellow hikers; the relaxed atmosphere and the calming effect of the surroundings were clearly visible on them. The only constant companion was the ceaseless rushing sound of the Breitach River.
Where the riverside path opened up toward the water, we spotted curious structures that simply had to be captured in photographs.
At many spots along the Breitach, passersby had built stone formations; in some places, these had expanded into large areas filled with interesting sculptures works that could almost be described as art objects.
This created unexpected perspectives and ever-changing subjects that captivated us as photographers.
Interspersed along the path were quiet spots and little idyllic touches such as a wooden water trough.
Along the way, we came across a rest stop that invited hikers to pause for a hearty meal. However, we had our usual provisions with us kohlrabi, carrots, bread, cheese, and grapes so...
...we decided to continue our walk and look for a resting spot out in nature instead.
It is amazing how beneficial certain "new" institutions (in this case, the EU) can be. It is often hard to tell exactly which territory you are in; one moment you cross a bridge, and the next, you are in Austria. We slowly make our way back to inhabited areas, coming across this horse farm at the entrance to Riezlern...
...then we climb up to the viaduct, which offers a magnificent view of the river...
...and, a little further on, opens up a vista of the entire Kleinwalsertal valley flanked by mountains.
A contradiction? We don't think so. A beautifully maintained building with a huge, landscaped garden and an unconventional garden fence. Why not?
The centre of Riezlern is almost deserted at this time of day. No wonder in such glorious weather, people prefer to stay out in nature as long as possible. We, however, want to head back to the campsite to enjoy a bit more of the autumn sun. Off to the bus stop.
