Istanbul – Project Presentation at the EMITT Travel Fair

Istanbul – We are attending the EMITT tourism fair in Istanbul to establish further contacts with companies in the tourism sector, local cultural associations, and outdoor and leisure enthusiasts. EMITT is ranked as the fourth-largest tourism fair in the world and, for the first time, features a hall dedicated to outdoor activities.

Even before the official opening of the EMITT tourism fair in Istanbul, early visitors arrived at the project caravan to receive detailed information about the project, the cultural portal Alaturka.info, and potential collaborations.

The EMITT travel fair in Istanbul officially opened at 10:00 a.m. sharp; shortly thereafter, the tourism organization from the city of Bursa became the first group of visitors to stop by. The conversation concluded with an invitation to continue our discussions in Iznik. Pictured here are Mukkades Kiliclar, Bursa’s Director of Culture and Tourism, alongside tourism experts Arda Celikmadden and Mehmet Güler.

Later that afternoon, we welcomed a very special guest whom we have known and valued for many years: Emin Senyer. A puppeteer specializing in the famous shadow theatre featuring the iconic characters Karagöz and Hacivat, he visited our stand and was thoroughly briefed on the project and its progress. His puppet show had originally been scheduled for the cultural festival in Regensburg, though it ultimately did not materialize despite several attempts by the Yunus Emre Foundation.

These two employees of a participating tourism company were clearly enjoying their current assignment.

As is customary at tourism fairs in Turkey, there were numerous musical performances mostly traditional in style that invited visitors to dance as early as the evening hours. The broad scope of tourism also encompassed the presentation of winter tourism in this instance, via an exhibition ice rink used by ice hockey players for demonstrations.

A similar theme was adopted by an active sportsman who showcased his motorcycling skills to promote an international outdoor event taking place on the Black Sea coast.

This stand, too, reflects the clear trend toward outdoor activities in Turkey a sector with a constantly expanding range of offerings.

At the stands representing various cities and regions, however, traditional cultural elements also took center stage such as Karagöz and Hacivat, the iconic figures of Turkish shadow puppetry who so aptly embody the contrast between cunning and naivety.

We were also proud to receive an award from the trade fair management presented by Director Hacer Aydın recognizing us as the "Best Team at EMITT 2015."

We were also visited by Apolas Lermi, a talented up-and-coming artist in Turkey; who knows what kind of collaborations might emerge at future events and festivals?
