The theme of European Heritage Days 2023 is "Living Heritage," which refers to the practices, knowledges and skills that have been passed down through generations while promoting appreciation for cultural diversity and creativity.
Marubi Museum has created a program dedicated to the temporary exhibition of Janaki and Milton Manaki photographers and cinematographers, among the most important figures in the early 20th century Balkans, through workshops and contributions from researchers in various fields, shedding light on the history and work of the Manaki brothers and addressing rituals reflected in their images.
Starting with workshops, part of the exhibition educational program, and continuing with a conversation with Igor Stardelov, head of the film archive in the Cinematheque of North Macedonia and Mikaela Minga, a musicologist who will present her research on Aromanian-Vlach music, the Heritage Days conclude on Saturday evening with the screening Eliza Zdru's documentary “The Manakia brothers. Diary of a Long Look Back”. The documentary begins with a photograph preserved in the family album, inspiring a journey across the Balkans in search of traces of Janaki and Milton Manaki.
