Campers at Spa Pozar Loutraki Aridea next to Orma

Campers at Spa Pozar Loutraki Aridea next to Orma

This weekend again pointed cloudless sky and therefore very pleasant daytime temperatures, so Toni from Camperstop Zampetas in Thessaloniki did the proposal to go to the mountainous region of Orma for Spa Pozar Loutraki Aridea on Saturday.

Several times Toni had reported about the local hot springs, which are used in some natural pools right to the river as thermal bath. Thus we had jointly decided together with Sven to go to the thermal spa, an absolutely worthwhile tour, which can be recommended in the literal sense, especially since there is a separate space for campers, which even offers electricity.

From Camperstop Zampetas to the thermal springs it is exactly 132 km, the same area provides a visit to the city of water Edessa and to visit the ancient capital of Macedonian Pella. For the culturally and historically interested campers it should be said that there are other ancient sites in the region. From the relatively shallow coastal area around Thessaloniki we drive on the 4-lane expressway towards Orma, a well worth visiting town on already 160 meters above sea level with narrow village streets and many small restaurants, which once enjoyed good times as a tourist destination. With regard to the thermal baths we asked for the way because we wrongly suspected the bath in the village of Orma itself. However we needed to drive little more, towards the border with Macedonia.

A beautiful fall day is awaiting us at the thermal baths, the leaves of lush deciduous forests reflect the sunlight in the most glorious colors again. You can dream dream about. The spa appears as a huge complex with various swimming pools, as natural enclosed rock pools to which the hot water is passed in covered troughs. Of course there is a restaurant and several terraces, because of weekend the bath is very well attended. Many people not only come for bathing, which almost everywhere is actually free, but also for hiking in the beautiful mountains of the area, so there are some trails that lead along the river to the plateaus. Immediately we decide to come here again for a few more days, for hiking the possible routes to the border area to Macedonia.

But now enough of the preliminary talks, the hot water of the thermal spa attracts too much. So bathing suit, a towel wrapped and off we go. We find an almost empty pool on the banks of icy creek and find us soon afterwards in about 70 centimeters deep, but very pleasant warm waters of the basin. The floor consists of fine sand, surrounded by eroded stones, which also radiate a very pleasant warmth. No wonder, that we stayed for hours in the pool. Every now and then thick boxed visitors come to the pool who do not understand that it is not the cold river water in which we swim, but thermal water. No wonder, the river was so close.

In the area of the bath is still good to realize what a flourishing operation there must have been once, so there are a few guest houses, yes, even a small hotel, which was built into the mountain. Here is an economically oriented concept and the whole area could be the major attraction of the region be, many of the locals could benefit. Well, maybe there are once again the campers who are an international wide dissemination of bathing facilities and thus again promote some movement for local development. We can only give a recommendation for the really interesting options here locally to each single camper. Come on, it's worth it! In November using the bath under the open sky.
