Payalar - A Relaxing Day at the Beach near Alanya

Payalar - A beloved little gem of a beach with a natural, unspoiled stretch of sand can be found just before reaching the coastal mountains outside Alanya, if you're coming from the direction of Manavgat, away from the sometimes-overcrowded tourist beaches.

The Pasa Bey Hotel complex, located on the same bay, is quite well-known.

Idyllic Beach near Payalar

turgai beach 022Drive through the hotel gate and turn left immediately after the barrier. You'll reach a small parking area right by the sea.

Besides a small beach bar, like those that used to be common on the beaches of Side and elsewhere, there's nothing but rock, sand, and sea, as well as an ancient building ruin whose origins remain unknown.

Here, water sports enthusiasts will find opportunities for diving and snorkelling, as the rocks extending into the water provide a habitat for fish and aquatic plants. Just as those simply wanting to swim can enjoy the crystal-clear water or floating on an air mattress.

Plenty of sun loungers and parasols are also available for sun worshippers, and they're even free of charge.

Small beach bar and absolute tranquillity

turgai beach 023The small beach bar near Payalar remains a top tip for guests seeking peace and relaxation away from the main tourist crowds.

Run as a purely family-owned business, Mehmet has been operating this gem for many years with virtually unchanged furnishings and a consistent menu, ensuring that guests remain loyal and return year after year.

We've grown so fond of this place next to Payalar that it seems Laura and Lynn have chosen it as their favourite beach.

This isn't just due to the peace and tranquillity that immediately sets in upon arrival, but also to the fact that there are always a few personal words of welcome and, every evening, an obligatory volleyball game with the international guests, which can last until dusk.

turgai beach 026So, you can spend a relaxing day on Payalar beach, refreshing yourself in the clear water whenever you like, or be a bit more active, equipped with a mask and snorkel, observing the rocks and the underwater world. Just a few days ago, however, we had the opportunity to experience the other side of the otherwise calm Mediterranean: strong winds had whipped up the waves so high that swimming was out of the question. The surf crashing against the rocks was all the more impressive, sending spray flying up to 10 meters high. An unparalleled experience that resulted in many interesting photos.

... So, in that sense, the afternoon consisted of sunbathing and watching the waves, while the evening was filled with sporting activities, including a strenuous game of volleyball on the sand that lasted over two hours and was played by five different nationalities, also without strict adherence to the rules.

A relaxing, easy day at the seaside.
