Jesenice and Dugi Rat - Impressions from Croatia

Impressions from Croatia - Jesenice and Dugi Rat

Jesenice and Dugi Rat - What causes kilometre-long traffic jams on coastal Highway 8 between Omiš and Split during peak season can now be enjoyed in early autumn with peace and tranquillity: small, idyllic coastal towns like Jesenice and Dugi Rat strung together like pearls on a necklace.

In between are kilometres of beaches, alternating between sand, pebbles, and rocks, with crystal-clear water that invites you to swim.

omis rueckfahrt 020We drove the coastal road from Montenegro, passing Dubrovnik, for the first time in the height of summer last year, which, despite the expected seasonal traffic, was manageable until we reached Omiš.

Traffic jam all the way to Split!

So, we debated several times whether we wanted to drive along the coast towards Split again.

Now, at the beginning of October, there are hardly any large tourist groups around; you only occasionally encounter a camper van.

The water is still very pleasant, so we set off on a tour along the road towards Jesenice and Dugi Rat, capturing some impressions of the beaches and small harbours in photographs.

The small resorts of Jesenice and Dugi Rat are located in the popular holiday region of Dalmatia, just a few kilometres from the former pirate stronghold of Omiš.

Jesenice consists of several small settlements (Jesenice, Bajnice, Krilo, Orij, and Suhi Potok) and lies amidst a picturesque setting, nestled between the imposing cliffs of the Mosor Mountains and the sparkling Adriatic coast.

Dugi Rat is situated at the foot of Mount Mosnjica, also only 5 km from Omiš.

The resort's beautiful sandy and pebbly beaches attract numerous holidaymakers to the region every year.

omis rueckfahrt 021Our stopover was once again at the Omiš campsite, which we had used several times before.

So, we had the opportunity to visit our favourite restaurant in Omis once again.

And as so often before – the fish was simply delicious and fresh.

We have described the town centre of Omis, which was once known as a pirate's nest, in more detail here.
