Max Schüller - We got to know and appreciate Max Schüller last year during the Paragliding Long-Distance Championship competitions as part of XCTurkey in Karaman, Beysehir, and at Tahtali.

Although still a relative newcomer among the pilots present, he already demonstrated some skillful takeoffs and landings as well as impressive flight maneuvers.

max schueller xc 026For about two months now, Max Schüller has been traveling in South America to participate in various qualifying rounds and competitions. Read his short report, which we just received:

Hey alaturka Team,

…I'm currently in Colombia, improving my flying skills. Since January 2nd, I've been captivated by the beautiful Roldanillo in the heart of this fascinating country, and we have excellent flying conditions here every day.

Consequently, I'm relatively isolated when it comes to communication, and I'm reluctant to waste my time on the internet.

At the beginning of January, the National Paragliding Championships were held here in Roldanillo. 150 participants from all over the world competed for a week.

max schueller xc 020The tasks were relatively short because the residual moisture from the heavy rains of the past few months kept the cloud base low. It was still fun, though, and

in the end, we were able to crown an American as the winner.

There were also five other Germans: Mustafa Ulutas, Mattieu (unknown), and Pal Takats. I finished somewhere around 100th place.

In mid-January, the PWC, the Pre-World Cup, also lasted a week. The guys and girls apparently had excellent flying conditions, so the whole event was a huge success.

max schueller xc 021Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience much of it because Mustafa was in the hospital, and I had to take care of him for two weeks. The tasks were around 100 km.

In February, we were in the east of the country, in a town called Villavicencio. An FAI (Federación Aero International) competition was held there.

Unfortunately, it rained, so only one task was scored in the end. My roommate, who coaches the Swiss national team, still managed to come in second.

max schueller xc 022We're back in Roldanillo now, and the national Cometa (hang glider) championships are currently underway.

About 30 participants are flying in mixed conditions, as it rains occasionally around midday. I'll probably stay here for a while longer.

Although it's not always easy, I like the cultural differences compared to Europe.

I think I still need some time to understand everything.

max schueller xc 025Colombia is a country full of pride, good food, and interesting people.

At the end of March, we'll be leaving for Medellín.

There's another competition there, and you can explore the country at the same time. :)

I wish you all the best, greetings to Seher, and sorry again if I'm not very communicative.

I only do the bare minimum online, and that's usually too much.' ... It would be great to hear how you're doing.

Best, Max
