Kruja - fortress, museum and tourist highlight
- Written by Portal Editor
From the Legjenda campsite we drove to the former fortress and present-day museum for the Albanian national heroes Skanderbeg which is in Kruja.
Since we are aware of the situation on the ground with regard to the construction in the upper town, we advise when traveling with the camper do not go up to the fortress, especially since there is alternative is by public mini bus system.
We parked our car in a small private car park, where we started hiking through a small alley, which offers all kinds of tourist articles, below the fortification.
The large number of shops and booths show it clear that Kruja is one of the best-known tourist resorts in Albania. The number of visitors is high, even during the week.
We were fortunate in the early morning, to relatively undisturbed pass the alleyways, discovered many tourist souvenirs, but also handicraft, fine arts and real antiques.
Hand-knotted carpets and colorful embroidered jackets exchanged with fashion jewelry and books.
Colorful, handmade flutes were ....
followed by pewter pots from the past.
Real handcrafts and lovely designed shops.....
the further we came closer to the entry of the castle.
More artefacts from middle ages filled the shops.
Table cloth as handcraft was looking very nice, to be watched in several shops.
And for sure, the Albanian flag was fixed at several places too.
Higher to the castle the shops were getting bigger as well some restaurant were introduced, symbols for more tourism.
Still very useful are these traditional made home shoes.
