Alanya Cable Car: the more relaxed way up the Castle Hill
Alanya – After a long absence, some errands brought us back to Alanya, also giving us the chance to swim in the sea.

We knew from the start that a visit to the Castle Hill was on the agenda, and for the first time, we considered taking the gondola lift opened in 2017 for the ascent.

However, upon reaching the base station and seeing the crowds of people waiting, we quickly abandoned that idea.

Given the 900-meter length (lifting visitors to about 300 meters above sea level) and a fleet of 17 gondolas each holding eight people it would likely have taken hours to reach the top.

The Alanya cable car (or gondola lift) was built to make accessing Alanya’s historic castle easier, especially since there are several restored historic buildings to visit.

There is also a bazaar housed in an impressive building dedicated to local craftsmanship.

The cable car route starts right at Cleopatra Beach in the Damlataş area—famous for its "asthma cave"—and runs up to the Ehmedek section of the castle.

Along the way, passengers can enjoy panoramic views of Alanya, the Mediterranean coast, and various historic structures.

The project was clearly realized with the aim of boosting the Castle Hill's appeal to tourists and easing the climb for pedestrians; previously, the only alternative to walking up the road was a very rocky, arduous ascent.
